of Being Catalysts for Change
CSI 2024 marked the
30-year milestone of the Catalyst Group, celebrating a legacy of
innovation in social impact
Word History of Catalyst
The term ‘catalyst’ was introduced into the English language in the
early 20th century, originating from its scientific use in chemistry. It
was derived from ‘catalysis,’ which describes the process where the rate
of a chemical reaction is altered by a substance that remains chemically
unchanged after the reaction. By the 1940s, the word had taken on a
figurative meaning, referring to a person or thing that rapidly
instigates change or action.
ABOUT CSI 2024
The CSI event took place at the prestigious
Dr. Ambedkar International Centre in New Delhi.
This venue is a tribute to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, a multifaceted visionary
who was not only a social reformer and brilliant economist but also a
lifelong learner, advocate for women’s rights, and the chief architect
of India’s constitution.
The centre’s atmosphere resonates with a sense of positive
influence, profound wisdom, and thoughtful insight. It stands as a
symbol of the principles Dr. Ambedkar championed: equality,
empowerment, and justice. Given its significance and the values it
represents, the Dr. Ambedkar International Centre proved to be an
ideal location for an event focused on fostering connections,
finding solutions, and inspiring change.
Catalysing Social Impact (CSI) is a confluence of minds—of
visionaries, social innovators, donors, grassroot change agents,
and communities—to power the discourse and shape strategies for inclusive and
sustainable development; underpinning the changing sectoral context,
new opportunities, and evolving thought.
The second edition in 2004, a two-day event, was a platform to
celebrate India's achievement while sparking meaningful
cross-sectoral opportunities for
(a) collaborating problem solving, (b) knowledge sharing and
learning, (c) impactful partnerships and (d) resource mobilisation .
The event was curated around three themes:
Innovative Finance
Implementation Fidelity and Quality
Grounded Climate Response
